Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the best-selling and most beloved Nintendo Switch games ever made, with over 33,000 global ratings at 4.8 out of 5 stars reflecting its broad and enduring appeal across all ages. Released in 2020, it remains a staple recommendation for anyone looking for a relaxing, creative, and deeply replayable Switch game.

The premise is simple: Tom Nook offers you a deserted island getaway package, and from there you build your island life entirely at your own pace. There is no fail state, no time pressure, and no single correct way to play. Days unfold in real time with morning, afternoon, evening, and night each bringing different activities, characters, and seasonal events. Over time you attract more villagers, expand your home, unlock new tools, and reshape the landscape itself with terraforming tools that let you sculpt rivers, cliffs, paths, and decorations exactly as you want them.

The crafting system lets you gather natural materials and build furniture, tools, and decorations from scratch. Fishing, bug catching, fossil hunting, gardening, and trading with visiting characters fill the days with gentle, low-stakes activity. The villager cast includes dozens of animal characters each with their own personality, who move in, develop opinions, and interact with you and each other over time.

Up to eight players can live on the same island, with four players able to play together simultaneously on a single Switch. Online multiplayer and local wireless allow friends and family to visit each other’s islands. Game is in English.
