Ryanair is cracking down harder on oversized hand luggage – and employees could soon profit from it.

CEO Michael O’Leary has announced that the airline is considering raising the €1.50 bonus currently paid to staff for every passenger caught with an oversized bag at the gate.

🎯 The goal?
To stop the 0.1% of rule-breakers who, according to O’Leary, slow down boarding and create unfairness for the 99.9% of passengers who follow the baggage rules.

✈️ Here’s what Ryanair currently allows (as of summer 2025):

• Free cabin bag size: 40 × 30 × 20 cm (updated from 40 × 25 × 20 cm)

• Weight limit: 10 kg

• Larger bags require paid upgrades during booking

⚠️ Oversized baggage fees at the gate can reach €75, depending on the route.

Ryanair plans to continue using airport bag sizers and reward employees who catch violations.
O’Leary said the company is happy to share fees with staff, but ultimately expects such fines to decrease over time as passengers adapt.

📈 Meanwhile, Ryanair posted record profits of €820 million between April and June 2025 – more than double the figure from the same period last year.
