Bad news for PlayStation fans: Sony has officially announced price increases for the PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal, effective April 2, 2026. The company cites “continued pressures in the global economic landscape” as the reason for the hike.

In Europe, the new prices are:

PS5 Digital Edition • €599.99
PS5 Pro • €899.99
PlayStation Portal • €249.99
Why is Sony doing this? Sony points to ongoing global economic pressures, including the impact of U.S. tariffs, rising RAM costs driven by AI demand, and global market instability. This is actually the second price increase in under a year, following a hike in August 2025.
For context: when the PS5 launched in November 2020, it cost €499. It now starts at €599, a significant increase over its lifetime.
Sony is not alone. Microsoft and Nintendo have also raised prices on their hardware recently, raising the question: are we heading toward the €1,000 console?
