SpongeBob SquarePants The Cosmic Shake is a light hearted platform adventure built around the classic humor of the series. SpongeBob and Patrick get hold of magical Mermaid Tears and everything goes wrong very quickly which opens portals to different themed worlds. Each world has its own style like the Wild West zone, the Halloween themed Rock Bottom area and prehistoric snail settings. The game keeps a fun pace with simple but satisfying platform movement that works well on the Switch.

You can unlock more than thirty costumes ranging from SnailBob to SpongeGar which adds variety to the levels and gives a bit of old school charm. The abilities include moves like the Fishhook Swing and the Karate Kick which help you get through levels packed with small challenges, collectibles and goofy enemies. For fans of the show the highlight is that all the main Bikini Bottom characters appear with their original voice actors so the game feels very close to the series.

The soundtrack contains more than one hundred songs from the show including Sweet Victory which adds a nostalgic touch for anyone who watched SpongeBob growing up. The gameplay is easy to understand for kids and enjoyable enough for adults who want a relaxed platformer without complicated mechanics. Many reviews mention that the humor and charm carry the experience even when the graphics feel simple.

If you like SpongeBob or want a family friendly platform game with lots of personality this is a good pick especially at the current price. It plays smoothly on the Switch and is a fun casual game for evenings or travel sessions.
